MARKET UPDATE

As at end of September 2025

September Indices

Global markets moved higher over the September quarter as confidence grew in a soft landing for major economies and a gradual shift towards monetary easing. Easing inflation pressures and more balanced central bank messaging supported sentiment, while volatility remained subdued. Overall, risk appetite improved as investors became more optimistic about the outlook for growth and policy settings heading into year end.

Deeming Rate Changes

WEALTH POINT

After being frozen for five years, the Centrelink deeming rates recently rose on 20 September 2025. Deeming rates are used to work out income from financial assets, thereby providing administrative ease in the application of the income means test. The process assumes that certain financial assets earn a set rate of income, rather than considering what they really earn.

FMG_Non-Exe. Dir & Global Ambassador of Fortescue Metals Group

Ep. 16: Patrick (Paddy) Gregg, Chief Executive Officer of Austal

Paddy Gregg ASB

In this episode recorded in July 2022 we were really fortunate to have as our special guest, Mr Paddy Gregg, CEO of Austal Limited. Austal has gone from strength to strength and is Australia’s global shipbuilder and defence prime contractor designing, constructing and sustaining some of the world’s most advanced commercial and defence vessels.

Paddy grew up in Northern Ireland and has a seriously interesting story to tell on his accumulated experiences on his journey to being the leader he is today. These include building Hunter Killer Class Nuclear submarines for BAE Systems in England and time spent for Network Rail, the owner and infrastructure manager of most of the railway network in Great Britain.

This episode provides some pretty amazing insights into the world of commercial and defence ship building. At this time, Paddy talks about the opportunity set in the US and expands on meta-trends such as regional instability, supply chain localisation, decarbonisation and also autonomy and automation.
